The Thread Count
This is a measure of the number of yarns woven into one square inch of fabric. Generally, the higher the thread count the softer the fabric is. Good quality bed linens have a thread count of 180 or higher.
However a word of caution, it is quite common to get high thread count fabric that is very poor and discerning customers must be wary when buying products described as Egyptian Cotton.

How can I get a mystery stain out of my cotton shirt?
My mum has a shirt from Dries Van Noten, and it can only be hand washed and is 100% cotton. I borrowed it one night, and now I have a mystery stain on it, it looks like oil, and I can't get it out! It must be over a day old now, is there any hope left?
Do not wash it until you have pre treated it with Dawn dish soap. Dawn is a great degreaser & will lift oil/grease stains if the stain doesn't set too long. Pour some Dawn dish soap onto the stain & either rub it in with your finger or use a soft brush, to brush it in. Let the shirt set for as long as possible, before hand washing in COLD water. If the stains appear to still be in the shirt, then repeat the Dawn all over again, then wash again. Don't wait any longer!!!!!!
