The Birth Of Designer Ties

In 1920 Jean Patou created the very first designer tie using women’s dress fabric, thus began the designer era. In the midst of the Art Deco revolution there was an explosion of colour and pattern from a new breed of designers that were learning free from influence or criticism. “Atelier Martine”

Mr. Patou went on to produce what was to become the most expensive perfume in history (Joy) He created the first sun tan lotion and introduced women’s sportswear. His major achievements all occurred during the Art Deco Era. exposition, des arts décoratifs

Architecturally, scrap books are brimming with classic examples of this amazing era. But there is no need to consult scrap books, archives, photo albums or “google it” because many of these landmarks are standing in spectacular original form. There function seems to be as much to please the eye as to house company’s headquarters. New York City has perhaps the most varied skyscraper "family" in the world. All prevailing design The Empire State Building, The Chrysler Building.

Art Deco was basically a "modernization" of many artistic styles and themes from the past. Many examples exhibit influences of Far and Middle Eastern design, Greek and Roman themes, and even Egyptian and Mayan influence. Modern elements included echoing machine and automobile patterns and shapes such as stylized gears and wheels, or natural elements such as sunbursts and flowers.

Another fine structure that deserves mention is “Falling Water House” By Frank Lloyd Wright. The most famous house in the world, a virtual timeless style, looking modern in any era, a visit will go down as one of your most satisfying experiences of life.

Now back to the origins of Art Deco and the designer tie. After extensive research via the V&A, Cooper Hewitt museums, reference libraries and archives we endeavour to interpret Jean Patou's original concept and so chose a variety of fabric styles to suit. From these we created modern versions in the form of cufflinks, hand hemmed pocket squares and elegant scarves for men and of course ties.

Rekindling the past, Art Deco has more comebacks than a boomerang.

But it has not been portrayed as sincerely in fashion before and that is the great point of difference inherent in all our styles, it has become thematic signature and the foundation of brand development.

From this foundation new ideas are brought to fruition through the formation of strategies. Now we’re tracing the footsteps of the birth of silk weaving in England and have unearthed a trove of historic anecdotes full of inspiration. On the subject of silk weaving: Sericulture or silk production in China has a long and colorful history unknown to most people. For centuries the West knew very little about silk and the people who made it. It was the most zealously guarded secret in history.

When silk was first discovered, it was reserved exclusively for the use of the ruler. It was permitted only to the emperor, his close relations and the very highest of his dignitaries. Within the palace, the emperor is believed to have worn a robe of white silk; outside, he, his principal wife, and the heir to the throne wore yellow, the color of the earth.

After all it is our belief that fashion is a culmination of past present and future and we endeavour to instil these ideals in each product intact with a tangible story based on fact.

The new generation of modernisation; bringing many different historic styles and putting them in contemporary frame works. So in essence it is a true continuation of the meaning of the concept of art deco “Art Moderne”

So concludes an episode of the birth and continuation of the designer tie and for that fact the designer era, an explosive avalanche of events swamped the world like a Krakatoa tidal wave.
