What's wrong with plastic food storage containers?

If you're anything like most people, you use storage containers both to store and to reheat food, especially for work. But when you reheat your dinner in a plastic container, you risk having some of the chemicals in the plastics absorbed into your food...which you then eat. Foods that contain fats are especially prone to this, as they cause a chemical named diethylhexyl adipate to be absorbed out of the plastic. Glass storage containers, on the other hand, pose absolutely no health risk to you or your family of chemical contamination in your food...no matter what you reheat in them.

But plastic food containers are reusable...isn't that a good thing?

It is...but how many scratched, stained or warped containers do you have lying around, and that you want to throw away? Plastic absorbs tastes and odors from foods, and stains easily. Heating them also causes them to warp over time, especially the lids. Glass storage containers, on the other hand, do not absorb tastes or odors, nor do they stain or warp. Unless you drop them and they break, they will last forever and still look as good as the day you bought them.

Isn't plastic recyclable?

Some is, but some is not. Most plastic food containers are not recyclable at this time. Plastic can take literally thousands of years to break down in a landfill...and not to mention that the manufacturing of plastics is a major source of environmental pollution. Since glass storage containers last longer for use, you don't need to throw them away.

Don't glass food containers cost more?

While they do cost a little more at first, they actually save you money in the long run. Why? Because they do not stain or scratch, you don't need to replace them as often, or at all. They also save you time, since they can be used in the freezer, the oven and the fridge...even table side for serving. They also look much nicer than plastic containers, which means you can store them anywhere you want...you don't have to hide them away in the back of your cupboards!

What about lids?

Glass food containers come with either glass or plastic lids. Glass lids are better, but they increase the cost. Plastic lids are fine, as long as you remove them before you heat your food so that they don't warp. Many lids for glass storage containers are made of thicker, sturdier plastic, and tend to hold up better to repeated use.

Plastic Surgery: Is it Really Necessary?

Plastic surgery used to be something which people such as movie stars went in for, but not the ordinary everyday person. Nowadays, all kinds of people are thinking about having plastic surgery, after seeing all those 'extreme makeover' transformations which hit the news all the time. Most of us hate our imperfections - but should we really be resorting to plastic surgery to deal with them?

The popularity of plastic surgery is largely to do with the high profile it has gained through the many television shows which feature it. Plastic surgery is now available to most of us. However this popularity and availability does not necessarily mean that all of us should go ahead with it. Many of people's perceived imperfections can actually be corrected in other ways. Avoiding surgery means that you also avoid the cost and risks involved. So if you are considering having plastic surgery, how can you find out whether it is the only option, or even the best one? Read on for some information which could help you find the answers you need.

Plastic Surgery or No Plastic Surgery?

If you hate those flaws in your appearance, and you are thinking that maybe plastic surgery is the only way to correct them, then think again. The chances are that it probably is not the only way. It is actually quite surprising to find out how many of these problems can be corrected, or treated, without plastic surgery. There are plenty of less invasive measures, which include microdermabrasion, acidic peels and Botox, as well as simple over the counter treatments.

Here, then, are the kinds of problems which can be corrected without surgery:-

• double chin
• plumpness or fullness along the line of the jaw
• fine lines on the cheeks, around the eyes, at the corners of the mouth or between the eyebrows
• fine under-eye wrinkles and dark circles under the eyes
• pigmentation flaws, discolored patches of skin, etc.
• blotchy or dry skin

However, problems which cannot be corrected other than by plastic surgery include:-

• hollow cheeks
• a deep fold (as opposed to a line) between the nose and mouth
• skin of the neck which has become very loose
• deeper wrinkles or skin which has become droopy, including 'jowly' skin hanging below the jaw
• deep frown lines
• puffiness around the eyes and deep circles under the eyes
• excess eyelid skin

There are other procedures in plastic surgery which many people contemplate and which we have not mentioned above. These procedures include ones such as nose jobs and breast implants. These procedures fall into the category of major surgery, which also have a great deal of emotional importance attached to them. This makes them difficult to place when it comes to deciding whether you should have them done or not. If you are considering any plastic surgery of this type, then the person to help with your decision is your plastic surgeon. Discuss your reasons for wanting surgery with them, as well as your other options, and talk it all through.

For anyone contemplating plastic surgery, no matter what the procedure, it is important firs to equip yourself with all the relevant facts. There is discomfort, and significant risk, associated with any form of surgery, whether minor or major, and you should be fully informed of what to expect and what the risks are before you commit yourself. If you still feel strongly that the only way you can achieve complete self confidence is plastic surgery, then research first. Seek out a highly recommended plastic surgeon, and go to them for help and guidance with the whole process.

I need a snoopy airlane for a 4 year old boy, small plastic is fine?

Here are some possibilities, although these aren't simple toys like you might be looking for:

Lite Chaser Snoopy (from www.campsnoopy.com) for $6.47 (although the site shows $12.95, it is currently on sale)
http://www.campsnoopy.com/detail.aspx?ID=526

Snoopy Flying Ace Fan (from www.joecollector.com) for $14.99 preorder (no direct link, but on page 4 of Fun and Games section)
http://www.joecollector.com/

and there are always a number of choices on eBay, including this die cast plane (http://cgi.ebay.com/1958-65-Aviva-Snoopy-Die-Cast-Airplane-W-Box-UFS_W0QQitemZ6028544329QQcategoryZ19237QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) and this paper mache bank (http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-SNOOPY-VEHICLE-SERIES-AIRPLANE-BANK_W0QQitemZ6028226379QQcategoryZ19237QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).

Note also that there have been a few Happy Meal toys which featured Snoopy in airplanes as well as toys attached to Whitman's chocolate boxes for various holidays. Here is an eBay auction with a McDonald's Happy Meal toy of Snoopy in his airplane (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6028621534&category=2520) and here is a picture of one of the Whitman's PVC figurines of Snoopy in an egg-shaped plane (an Easter toy) (http://www.havanafolks.com/phil/snoopy/whitman/easter00.htm).

If you watch eBay you will see these Happy Meal toys and Whitman's figurines come up for auction frequently.

Good luck!

Gaming’s most violent double acts
Mario and Luigi. Abbott and Costello. Sunny and Cher. All fine double acts, no doubt. But you know the thing each of them were missing? Good old fashioned slaughter to really solidify their partnerships. That’s where the grizzly duos below come into play.
