Which renaissance wars? Which armies?
There were no proper uniforms as such, certainly for European armies, during the renaissance.For example, during the English Civil Wars of the 1640s individuals were distinguished from the other side by wearing different coloured sashes (Crimson for Royalists, Orange for Parliament) or even by something as basic as wearing a piece of white paper in their hats (as Parliament forces did at the battle of Marston Moor,1644) to tell friend from foe.
Available equipment, weapons,and clothing was more or less the same for everyone, so without the distinguishing mark of a sash or something else as described above there was no way of telling which army a soldier belonged to.
