What is the white stuff in my garden soil?
I am not referring to the white beads for moisture control found in most soil mixes.
I have a raised garden bed and we starting preparing it for planting. When turning the soil to remove any dead roots from last years harvest, we found white soil in clumps. I assume it is some kind of mold so is it a good bacteria or harmful and should I get a fungus killer?
This is mycorhizal fungi and not only beneficial but essential to healthy, happy soil. This soil can, in plugs, be used to inoculate other less fertile parts of your gardens. Or, leave it be and it will be fine.
